Review and Analysis of HP IT Asset Disposal Services

This white paper is based on extensive in-house research we conducted in April of 2024 into ITAD providers and publicly available information. This paper examines HP’s Device Recovery Services, revealing limitations such as narrow asset acceptance, lack of online reporting, and unclear chain-of-custody procedures. Cashback is not offered—only credit toward HP purchases—and residual value assessments in our research often returned zero. In contrast, a dedicated ITAD managed service provider (ITAD MSP) offers upfront quotes, robust data destruction, audit trail assistance, and intuitive tracking portals while prioritizing reuse over recycling and delivering direct cashback to clients for qualified assets.
